Ways to Volunteer

Resource Families

Resource Families make a one-on-one difference by temporarily "adopting" a child for once-a-month outings. Children at Salem know all about "resources". Every child longs for a resource family. Unlike many mission opportunities, being a resource family does not require one to give up home and personal belongings, say goodbye to loved ones, risk life or health, raise support, make a two-year fulltime commitment, or be subjected to painful immunizations. Being a Resource Family is a rewarding mission which requires only a little bit of time and a share of love. In addition we have a partnership with the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters. If you think you might be interested in becoming a resource family, or if you'd like more information, email us or call Jamie Kamp at 301.689.6625 ext 207.

Workdays

Volunteer opportunities at Salem include workdays--typically in the summer--to tackle tasks such as clearing hiking/riding trails, freshening paint, cleaning up the grounds, and working in the garden. Volunteers have come from as far away as Baltimore and Washington, DC, to work, play and eat with the children of Salem.
Let us know us if you would like to be informed of the next Workday via email or phone (301.689.8176 x208).

WCBC Christmas Party

Each year WCBC Radio, Cumberland, plans and hosts a magnificent party for the children of Salem. Volunteer "Host Families" are seated with "their" child for the evening to exchange gifts and enjoy food, a visit from Santa and a brief program featuring the Salem Choir.

Volunteer individuals and businesses also give gifts from a wish list provided by each child.

The WCBC Party is legendary among Salem children, who look forward to it eagerly each year and tell newcomers about it immediately when they arrive. If you would like to be involved in any aspect of the WCBC party, contact us via email or phone (301.689.8176 x208).

Fundraising

Our Supporters comin in many shapes and sizes and it could be as simple as believing in our program and participating in our fundraisers or organizing and event such as a yard sale or car wash to benefit the children here at Salem. If you think you might be interested in supporting Salem in this way email us or call Kristen Fischetti at 301.689.8176 ext 208.
